Alaska Paycheck Calculator

Alaska has no state income tax on wages, but it is one of the very few states where employees contribute to unemployment insurance: 0.50% of wages up to a $54,200 taxable wage base in 2026, a maximum of $271 for the year. That small SUI line plus federal taxes is everything that comes out of an Alaska paycheck.

Alaska paycheck FAQs

Why is there a state deduction on my Alaska pay stub if Alaska has no income tax?

Alaska is one of only a few states (with Alaska, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania among them) where employees share the cost of unemployment insurance. In 2026 the employee rate is 0.50% on the first $54,200 of wages — at most $271 for the year.

Does the Permanent Fund Dividend affect my paycheck?

No. The PFD is an annual payment from the state's oil wealth fund to eligible residents, separate from payroll. It is federally taxable income, but nothing about it is withheld from wages.

What federal taxes apply in Alaska?

The same as everywhere: federal income tax withholding per your W-4, Social Security at 6.2% up to $184,500 (2026), and Medicare at 1.45% plus 0.9% on wages above $200,000.
