Personal loan calculator FAQs
Does this account for origination fees?
No — this estimates the payment on the loan principal you enter. Many personal loans charge an origination fee deducted from the amount you receive, so the amount financed (and therefore the payment) may be higher than the cash you actually get. Check your loan disclosure for the exact figure.
What interest rate should I use?
Personal loan APRs vary enormously by credit score and lender — commonly anywhere from around 7% to 36%. Use the rate from an actual offer or pre-qualification for an accurate estimate; a generic average won't reflect your real terms.
Is a personal loan cheaper than a credit card?
Often yes, if you qualify for a lower APR than your card charges — and a personal loan has a fixed payoff date, unlike revolving credit card debt. Compare the APR and total interest here against your card's terms to see which actually costs less.
