Overtime calculator FAQs
When does overtime pay kick in?
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, most hourly (non-exempt) employees must be paid 1.5x their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Some states have additional rules, like daily overtime after 8 hours in California.
What is double-time pay?
Double-time (2x the regular rate) isn't required by federal law, but some state rules and union contracts require it for hours beyond a higher daily or weekly threshold, or for certain holidays.
Does this include tax withholding?
No — this calculates gross overtime pay only. Use the paycheck calculator to estimate take-home pay after taxes.
